About Private Jet Charter Flights

What is a Charter Flight?

A charter flight is an unscheduled flight that is not part of a regular airline routing. With a charter flight, you rent the entire aircraft and because a charter flight is not part of a scheduled service, the flight will depart when you want it to. You are also able to choose which cities you fly to and from.

Do I still need a passport when travelling privately?

When boarding an international private jet charter, passengers are still required to bring their passports and visas along with them. To make sure your charter runs as smoothly as possible, check the expiration date of your passport and/or visa. If in doubt whether your passport is still valid check with your destination’s embassy or consulate website.

Do I still follow customs/immigration when travelling on an international jet charter?

Yes, you must still go through customs/immigration when flying internationally on a private jet charter. When flying into different countries, however, there are different rules and regulations to follow. At smaller airports, special arrangements may be made to accommodate passengers arriving from international destinations. Whereas at larger airports, there are dedicated customs and immigration staff members available at all times. The security procedures and baggage checks are normally minimal compared to flying commercially. Even though the processes still apply to passengers flying on a chartered jet, the wait times are drastically reduced and there are no line ups to wait in.

Do private jet charters use the same airports as commercial airlines?

Yes, jet charters use the same airports as commercial airlines. However passengers flying on private jet charters have access to more than 7,000 airports. This includes the major commercial airports and smaller, specialized airfields that are not serviced by scheduled airlines. If there is an appropriate smaller airport nearby, you don’t need to depart from or arrive at a major airport.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

In general turboprop and very light jets like Pilatus PC-12 and Beechjets cost from $1,500 to $3,000 per flying hour; light and midsize jets such as the Hawker 850 and the Gulfstream G200 range from $4,000 to $6,500 per flying hour, while super-mid and large private jets like Challenger 601 and Falcon 50 range from $7,000 to $13,000 per flying hour. For an unaccompanied minor to fly on a Privaira private jet charter, BOTH parents must sign and notarize a consent form. You can request the Parental Consent form when you book the flight. Our team will email you the form, which you can then print, sign, notarize and return.

The second requirement is clarity on who is permitted to pick up the minor at the arrival destination. Again, this information can be provided at the time of the booking.

What do I need to know about flying on private jets with kids?

Babies can be held by their parents, or travel in an approved baby carrier. The benefit of flying with a private jet charter is that you have more privacy when you need to breastfeed your child or change your child’s diapers.

When traveling with toddlers, you can choose to give the toddler in a seat of their own, or as a lap passenger. There are pros and cons to both, depending on your need for comfort, and your child’s temperament.

Depending on the aircraft and destination, there may be in-flight entertainment options available. But to make sure your chilkd feels relaxed be sure to pack multiple amusements to entertain a child for the duration of a flight.

How many people can fly on a private jet?

The bigger the jet, the more people it can hold, and the farther it can fly. Light to mid-range jets hold six to nine passengers and can travel up to 2,100 to 2,700 miles; Super mid-sized to heavy jets can carry eight to 16 passengers, and travel 3,600 miles to 4,500 miles; and ultra-long-range models can hold up to 17 passengers and fly up to 7,500 miles in a single journey.

Can you smoke in private jets?

The short answer is yes, although whether or not you can on a specific aircraft is determined on a case by case basis. Many private aircraft owners are just as particular with their planes as they are with their homes and automotive vehicles, as so should you be with your private flight preferences. Each aircraft maintains its own operational policies as far as what is and what is not allowed on board.

What is the difference between a one-way flight and an empty leg?

A one-way flight is simply a flight traveling from one airport to another, without a return leg scheduled to create a round trip. When this happens, the private aircraft used for these one-way flights need to return to their operator’s base airport, creating what is called an “empty leg” flight; these flights are scheduled to return to their home airports without any passengers on board, and can be sold at heavily reduced prices to offset the cost for the operator, which also presents our clients with opportunities for huge savings.
